Euro cylinder

A Euro cylinder is a type of lock mechanism characterised by its cylindrical shape and widespread use in door locking systems across Europe. Comprising a central cam that operates the locking mechanism, it is encased in a rotatable cylindrical plug within which the key is inserted. Distinguished by its versatility, the Euro cylinder fits into different types of door materials and profiles, making it a popular choice for both residential and commercial properties.

The design allows for easy installation and replacement, often requiring only a screwdriver to remove and replace the cylinder. It supports various locking mechanisms, including thumbturn versions which provide convenience from the inside while maintaining security from the outside. Unique to this lock type are its break-secure features, designed to prevent snapping, a common attack method whereby the cylinder is broken to manipulate the lock.

Euro cylinders are available in different sizes and security grades, adhering to standards such as the EN 1303:2015, which classifies them based on resistance to physical attacks like drilling, snapping, and bumping. These locks can also be keyed alike or differently in a master key system, providing scalable security solutions tailored to user needs and premises requirements.
